What exactly is Phenylethylamine?

Phenylethylamine is also know as PEA or 2-phenylethylamine and is derived from phenylalanine, an amino acid. Interestingly, phenylalanine is also found to naturally occur in some foods such as chocolate, beans and lentils. Phenylethylamine an ingredient is many fat burners and weight loss formulas, and can also be used for energy. It acts on the dopamine and norepinephrine receptors in the brain to create a feeling of well-being and increased alertness/energy.

Phenylethylamine has a strong synergy with Hordenine, with much anecdotal evidence supporting this synergy. This is because on its own, phenylethylamine is quickly broken down in the brain by MAOs. However by supplementing Hordenine you are able to inhibit this action, which allows for a stronger and longer effect from the phenylethylamine as well as the added boost from the Hordenine. Caffeine can also be added to this stack for an extra kick. One of the dangers with this combination is a risk of overstimulation, giving jitters and anxiety. Because of this it is recommended to start the stack with lower doses and work up until you find what works best for you.

Phenylethylamine Safety

The average dose of phenylethylamine is approx 300mg and you shouldn’t exceed 1000mg of phenyethylamine per day. This is a fairly safe supplement however if any adverse effects occur then reduce the dose or discontinue usage for a bit.

Phenyethylamine is a useful supplement if you are feeling tired and down and need a pick me up. I find this supplement can help boost my mood and give me the motivation needed to get back on task. Phenyethylamine is also very useful when stacked with Hordenine and Caffeine as a cheap preworkout.
